The Hart Surgery, along with other practices in the area, is required to prescribe medications from the Oxfordshire Prescribing Formulary. This specifies a range of prescribable medicines and is designed to encourage safe, effective and economical prescribing.
You may order repeat prescriptions online, by post, email or in person using your repeats slip (the right hand side of your green prescription) or filling in a request form at reception. We are unable to accept requests for repeat prescription over the phone for safety reasons. Completed prescriptions may be collected from the surgery or delivered to any of the four chemists in Henley – Boots, Henley Pharmacy, Boots West Lane or Tesco.
Our prescriptions are processed by computer that will have been agreed by your doctor and with each form there will be a tear-off portion to keep to assist you in obtaining your next prescription. Please allow at least two full working days for your prescription to be processed.
You should see your doctor at regular intervals to review your drugs and your general state of health. Your doctor may request you to make an appointment before further prescriptions are issued, to update your medications. On occasion it may be necessary to stop or change a medication for reasons of clinical safety.
Prescriptions are LEGAL documents. When a patient or patients representative (i.e. a family member or friend) come to collect a prescription from the surgery, the receptionist will ask for verification of Name and Address.
REMEMBER TO SUBMIT YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS EARLY OVER BANK HOLIDAY PERIODS. IT WOULD BE HELPFUL IF YOU COULD DO THIS A WEEK AHEAD IF THEY ARE DUE FOR RENEWAL DURING THESE BUSY TIMES

By law, the NHS ceases to have responsibility for the medical care of patients when they leave the UK. People traveling within Europe are advised to carry an authorised European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) at all times and this gives entitlement to reduced cost (and sometimes free) medical treatment. Patients should be advised to check specific entitlements prior to travel.
GPs are not required by their Terms of Service to provide prescriptions for the treatment of a condition that is not present and may arise while the patient is abroad. Persons who have left the UK, or who are intending to leave the UK, for more than 3 months are not normally allowed to continue to be registered with a practice.
The NHS accepts responsibility for supplying ongoing medication for temporary periods abroad of up to 3 months. If a person is going to be abroad for more than three months then all that the patient is entitled to at NHS expense is a sufficient supply of his/her regular medication in order to get to their destination, where they should then find an alternative supply of that medication.
